Documentary Project: The Neighborhood

The Cova da Moura neighborhood was born after the 25 of April Revolution period. With the end of the regime and the return of returnees from the former colonies, the place, until then a field of growing wheat at the gates of Lisbon, began to change shape and become what we know today architecturally.

The neighborhood, like so many other, is home of orderly, hardworking and humble people, however it also has a dark side, that both, the civil associations and the Police department try to attenuate at all costs, either by inclusion or, in extreme cases, through repression.
This project, which remains open, tries to show what is the Alto da Cova da Moura neighborhood.





A Cova da Moura nasceu enquanto bairro, no período pós 25 de Abril. Com o fim do regime e com o regresso dos retornados das ex-colónias, o local, até então um campo de cultivo de trigo às portas de Lisboa, começou a mudar de forma e tornou-se arquitetonicamente naquilo que hoje conhecemos.

O bairro que como tantos outros acolhe pessoas ordeiras, trabalhadoras e humildes tem também um lado obscuro, que as associações civis e a Policia de Segurança Pública tentam a todo o custo  fazer desaparecer, seja através da inclusão ou, em casos extremos, através da repressão.
Este projecto, que continua em aberto, procura dar a conhecer aquilo que é o bairro do Alto da Cova da Moura.
